Today I enter the world of BLOGGING! And I won’t lie, it’s a little scary. Yes, a lot of what I do requires me to be creative and write for others so one would think “Gee Bretta, this should be a piece of cake!” (no pun intended)  But yet, here I am, sitting in front of this screen wondering “How do I do this? What if it’s boring? What if  no one wants to read this and I am actually scaring people off?”  So forgive me if these first few, or first 10 are a little rough.

I thought I would start off this journey into blogging by just introducing myself, my business and let my fingers go from there.

My name is Bretta Thompson and I am a Wedding Planner, Coordinator and Wedding Officiant. I started my wedding Officiant Business in 2012. I had officiated several weddings for friends and I was told by so many people that I “Had a knack” for it so I thought “Why not try to make this a career?” I actually drove a Limo for a wedding venue for about 5 months and that is how I was bitten by the Wedding Bug! Yes, there is a wedding bug! And it bites HARD!

In my first year I did 35 weddings and I thought I was the queen of the world. I was very green and very new and didn’t realize how much actually went into officiating a wedding. But I knew I LOVED it. All of it. Everything about it! It was  such a happy time, a fun time and everyone was there for one reason: To watch this couple unite their separate lives, to put their love on full display for their friends and family and also……..party like it’s 1999!

I learned very quickly that what most couples really wanted was to get to the party and celebrate this beautiful day with their guests.
Don’t get me wrong, many  couples want that beautiful “Father of the Bride” ceremony experience and we work closely with each and every amazing couple that trusts us with their ceremony to give them their “dream” day.

After 3 years of strictly officiating I decided I Wanted to dive deeper into the world of weddings and try my hand at Wedding Planning and Coordination.  I am a bit of a control freak, a Monica Gellar, I LOVE My lists, everything in it’s place and I love to see a event come together.

My past work experience in Materials management, purchasing, scheduling and budgeting actually played a role in this. So much of what I did a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away played into wedding planning and wedding Coordination. So, I offered to help some friends, their friends friends, then offered my services up for CHEAP to many brides to see if I could do this. BUT, do it well. I devoured everything I could online, in books, magazines, tv shows. I wanted to know it all. Or at least LOOK I knew it all. We’ve all been there right?

And you know what? I COULD Do this! In fact, I Loved it so much I decided I wanted to make it official and become a Certified Wedding Planner and Wedding Coordinator. So, I got educated, I did the classes, I took the courses, I poured my heart, soul and life into learning everything I could and I added the title “CERTIFIED WEDDING PLANNER” To my resume and my business. And it TOOK OFF!

Back in 2012 I started my business with just little old me. In 2015 I started getting so busy I needed a few more officiants. There was only ONE Of me and I hated turning away couples. So, I added another female officiant. Then that same year, I added a Male officiant. Then I added another, and another , and so on and so on. We have 16 Officiants on our team today.  A wonderful amazing group of people I call my friends, colleagues, partners and family.   

Fast forward 9.5 years, 1000+ Couples and here we are.
We are now Preferred Recommended vendors with many amazing venues across Indianapolis, Bloomington, Greenwood, North Vernon, Fishers and more. I have officiant’s in Indianapolis,  Fort Wayne, Indiana, Evansville, In, Terre Haute, French lick. And I going to add a few more so that we have FULL INDIANA COVERAGE for any couple needing a Officiant or wedding Planner.

I have such a passion for this industry. I have made some amazing friends, developed some incredible relationships with so many amazing fellow vendors. I have learned so much in these last 10 years and yes, I AM STILL learning. You cannot grow, you cannot improve, you cannot make changes for the BETTER if you are not continually learning and educating yourself in your craft.
